How to Add Password to PDF Files

There is no deny in the fact that one of the easiest and secure way of sharing important documents is the Portable Document Format. Do you have an important PDF document which you want to share with your colleagues, friends or classmates? Are you afraid that they might change or edit the PDF file? You can add an extra layer of protection to your PDF files using a strong password on your PDF file. In this article, I will teach you how to add password to PDF files.

Part 1 The Program for Adding PDF Password

Wondershare PDFelement is not mere a password protecting software for your PDF files, it is a complete PDF package that everyone should install his or her computer. The main features of PDFelement include creating, editing, converting, password protecting, form filling and even the printing of the PDF files.

You can start creating the PDF file from the blank sheet or images and documents. Once you have created a PDF file, you can either remove the whole text or image or can add new image or text to your PDF file. PDFelement lets you directly be converted into the Microsoft Word document, PowerPoint presentation or the Excel sheet, images and more.

Part 2How to Add Password Protection to PDF File

Get the latest version of the Wondershare PDFelement for your computer. After downloading Wondershare PDFelement, the guide to install the program is pretty easy, all you have to do is to follow on screen instructions.

Step 1. Add PDF Files

After installing the Wondershare PDFelement, run it on your computer. Click on the "Open" button at the bottom to load the PDF that you want to protect. Alternatively, you can click on the "File" menu in the top and select "Open".

For Mac users, open the Wondershare PDFelement for Mac and click on the "Open File" button on the right side of the screen.

Step 2. Add PDF Password

Click on the "Protect" tab in the top bar and select the "Password" option. On the next screen, you can either select the open password or permission password. Check any of these options and enter a password. Finally, click on the "OK" button at the bottom of the screen.

For Mac users, once you have opened the PDF file, a list of different options will be shown on the right side of the screen. Click on the "Protection > Encrypt with Password". A new massage will pop up. Select an option to add the password on your PDF file and click on the "OK" button at the bottom of this pop-up.

Step 3. Save Your PDF

Now, you have to save the changes to this PDF File. Close the PDF file and click on the "Yes" in the next dialogue box. You can also go to "File > Save" to save the changes.
