Step 1. Open PDF with PDFelement

On launching the program, you will see the "Open File" button at the bottom right. Click on it, go ahead, and choose the PDF that you want to protect. Once you have selected click on the "Open" button.

Step 2. Redact in PDF on Mac

As mentioned earlier, you can redact texts, images, and pages on your PDF. At the top right is where the "Redaction" is located.

  • To redact texts and images click on the "Arrow" icon next to "Redaction" button and select "Mark for Redaction". Now drag the cursor to highlight desired texts or images. Immediately you release it the item will be marked black.
  • To redact pages, go to "Redaction" button and this time, click on "Mark Pages to Redact" A new window will appear. Select the page range that you want to redact. After that, click "OK" icon and you will see the pages covered black.

To permanently save the changes go to expand the Redaction menu and click on "Apply Redaction". You will get a warning, proceed and apply the changes.

Step 3. Edit Redaction Properties

You can also change the redaction properties. When you click on the "Redaction" button, you will see that there is a panel that is activated at the far left.

Here you can change the appearance, which is the color, fill color, opacity, and format. Click on "Stroke Color" and select a preferred color. You can test the changes by redacting parts of the PDF file. You can also change the overlay text format. Enable "Use Overlay Texts" and select preferred style and font.
