An SF-15 Form is a type of form that is very useful when an army force who is a 10-point veteran wanted to apply into a special federal job. It works as a proof or preference to be qualified into the veteran job; these jobs are widely known because of the benefits that it offers. A retired soldier or army force is considered as non-eligible veteran unless disabled during an activity or service. An army force may look up on some veteran preferences to know some regulations that apply in obtaining a 10-point veteran title. An SF-15 form is a 2 paged form wherein identifications and veteran verification details are needed to be provided, as well as some statements proving that the applicant is eligible for the preferences. Supporting documents are needed along with this form which may vary according to the category which is stated in the form by the applicant.
SF-15 Form shall state clear and true information about the applicant; this can be the person itself or the widow of the veteran. It is quite confusing if the applicant doesn’t know the corresponding rules for each preference. So here are the steps on how to fill this form out:
Step1
Start by filling out the name box from the top most of the form; begin with the last name working your way until the first name. Under name box, full address of the applicant must be supplied in the space provided.

Next part is the veteran’s information which is provided by the applying person as well. The name needed to be written is as is what written on the service record, likewise the accumulated period of service including the branch of service, date of the active duty, and the date that the person has been discharged from active duty.

Boxes 5 to 9 are the specification part on which type of preference is trying to be claimed through the form. There are some checkboxes wherein the applicant may check or cross out. Each checkbox with the corresponding type of preference are some explanation of what the preference is about. It is ideal to look for a preference rule of coverage on the internet for some guidelines. Understanding the preferences helps upon choosing the right category for the applicant.
Note: For boxes 5 and 6 there are corresponding requirements to be provided to support the form which can be seen at the back of the form.
Note: For preferences 7 to 9 are the section for the non-applying veteran which includes the widow, or a family member. There are also corresponding requirement for each.

On page 2 of the form is where the documents required for each preference are written and on the bottom part are some questions more on choosing between checkboxes about the applying veteran.

Read the form carefully, as well as the documents that are needed. It is necessary to prepare the supporting documents ahead of time so that filling out the form would be much easier.

Follow the rules that the form has to avoid nullity and for the form to be approved.

If the form has failed to be submitted within the time clause, there is a chance that it will be reviewed for a vacancy, and the veteran point may be ranked down.

Make some copies of the supporting documents before sending them, as it will not be sent back by the accepting agency.
