Part 2How to Make a PDF Password Protected

Wondershare PDFelement gives you two different options: you can either choose "open password" or "permission password" to lock your data. The former protects unauthorized viewing, while the latter protects unauthorized copying, editing and printing.

Step 1. Load Your PDF

After installing PDFelement, open it on your computer. On the bottom left corner of the Home window, you will see an "Open" button, click it. Then select the file you want to protect, click "Open" to import it. On Mac, you need to click the "Open File" button.

Step 2. Add Password Protection

Now click the "Protect" tab which you will see on the main menu. Click on "Password" following "Require a password to change security settings and access specific functions". Enter a strong password. Retype it to confirm. Lastly click "OK" button. You have successfully saved your file from copying threats, isn't it simple.

On Mac, you need to navigate to the right side main menu. Click "Protection" to expand the tools. Click "Encrypt with Password" and now you can choose the security method. Mark the "Require a password to open the document". Try to use the highest level of encryption in this way. Click "OK" to save the password.
