A comparison chart is a good way of knowing the difference of two or more products with the same property or concept. It is an enclosed chart with a box and multiple columns inside. It states different categories, in which it is marked or checked out if a product possess it or not. Most of the time it is presented by reviewers to show off the pros and cons of an item. Data and information are included in this kind of chart like properties, capabilities and characteristics. It can be a table, graphic diagram, or a score card as well.
It is normal to look at the similarities of two items when we are trying to compare. But there are certainly many ways on how we are going to compare things, one of it is a comparison chart. A comparison chart is another type of diagram in which we can easily enlist and sort out all the qualities of an item, and it should be done graphically. A tabular chart with a checklist of description is a good example of this. It should indicate the names, quality, description, function and so on of a product. In some cases, actual pictures are also used to visualize difference.
Surely, it is easy to just say the difference of two items especially if we had used it or we already had an experienced this item, but wisely speaking it is better to do a comparison chart in order for us to come up with a good decision. So here are the steps on how to make a comparison chart:
Step1
Items. Identify the items to be compared. It has to be somehow relevant to each other, for example, a phone. There are lots of cell phone brand that is out on the market that makes us haggle on which to buy, in this kind of situation, comparison chart is a must.
Step2
Gathering informations. How can we be able to compare two things if we don’t know a single thing about it? So it is best to gather all the available informations first before jumping into comparison. Searching the internet is the best way to do this, it should be true and accurate so go into legitimate sites only. Looking up into infomercials and brainstorming do the same job as well.
Step3
Plotting the diagram. Now that you have all the informations about the products that you are about to breakdown on comparison, proceed to plotting the diagram. Comparison Charts has various formats so choose what the best fit considering your topic. A tabular diagram is the most standard format, it is simple and adding columns for different category is not really hard.
A. If the chart is tabular, write all the subjects horizontally going right in separate columns. And then downwards are the characteristics to be checked for each item.
B. Your chart can depend on what are the things that you are looking for, so making a room for the desired function or property is also useful.
Step4
IV. Listing the informations down. A compare and contrast chart should always meet the same standpoint at the end. It should make a sensible argument that meets the two subjects in a higher or lower perspective. So, at this point, either a check box or a statement, the categories must stick to the topic.
1
Know what your main point is. It is best to do a comparison when the things that you are concern about can vary through these items that you are contrasting. So when you are making your chart, consider your interests.
2
Accurate details. Remember that making a comparison is also trying to make an item stand out so it is best to gather all the possible information you can get and always ask for some opinions.
3
Keep you chart organized. You should be able to understand clearly what is written and stated on it. Keep focusing to the topics that you are comparing and keep them relevant.
4
Conclusion. A successful Comparison Chart must drive you into a good conclusion, it doesn’t need to be pointless so, keep the ideas coming.
