Military time conversion chart is a concise method of expressing time used by the military, hospitals, law enforcement agencies and other emergency entities. This type of time uses a 24 hour time format that makes the use of a.m and p.m unnecessary. For example, midnight will correspond to 0000 while 2 p.m will correspond to 1400 in that order. This system of timing is used in most countries and there is also an international standard for this time convention from the International Organization of Standardization under the ISO 8601. In addition, many countries including the United States and Canada refer to the 24 hour clock as military time. The reason for the military time conversion is because this type of time is actually different from the conventional or regular time notation.
Converting military time minutes to standard time works by multiplying by 60. For example, converting 0.005 military time minutes, you just multiply 0.005 by 60 which is 3 minutes. Getting it back to the standard time becomes dividing by 60.
To convert hours and minutes from standard time to military time, you only need to convert the minutes. For example, if you want to convert 8 hours and 20 minutes into military time, you only need to convert 20 minutes, that is 20 divided by 60 which is equal to 0.33 military minutes. Therefore, 8 hours 20 minutes of standard time becomes 8.33 minutes of military time.
