The new iOS 10 is here, and it comes with a number of improvements. Apple officially introduced the new operating system in June, at the WWDC 2016, showing some of the new things that the OS can. Among the many improvements, Apple has mentioned the new lock screen, Siri, and the way notifications work. This article is going to show you some iOS 10 news and the step-by-step guide for how to download and install iOS 10.
For starters, notifications are now broken into bubbles at the lock screen, and fans can use 3D touch to see hidden menu actions. Fans can also clear all notifications at once with 3D touch. But most importantly, Apple redesigned the lock screen to make it more practical and functional, removing the signature "slide to unlock", and introducing "press home to unlock". This is the biggest overhaul of the lock screen since Apple introduced the iPhone nine years ago.
Siri is on another level in iOS 10, and Apple has finally opened the voice assistant to third party apps and developers, allowing fans to use Siri for changing settings, sending messages and much more.
Last, but not least, the Cupertino-based company has introduced side panel widgets, where fans will find many popular applications made into widgets.
There are two ways to download and install the latest update to your Apple device. To check the version of your device, go to Settings > General > Software update. There you will also see if your phone, iPad or iPod can be updated to iOS 10. There is a beta version running around at the moment, but it is complicated and we recommend waiting for the real thing, which will come in September when Apple introduces iPhone 7.
Also, remember to backup your devices before updating to the latest version. Now, the two methods for updating your device to iOS 10 are over-the-air, and via iTunes or iCloud.
To update your device via this method, go to "Settings app > General > Software Update > Download and Install". One thing to note, your phone must be connected to the internet via Wi-Fi (you don't want the update to eat up your entire data internet) and your battery status should be great. You can probably update your phone with 50-60% battery status, but we recommend using full battery. The process takes longer, but it is easiest.
This is a much faster method, but you also need to have Mac. Make sure your iTunes version is up to date on your Mac, and then connect your iPhone or iPad via sync cable. The moment your two devices are connected, you will see a pop-up alert on your computer, and you will be asked whether you want to update your device.
Just click the "Download and Update" button, and let iTunes do the job for you. If you notice an alert does not pop-up after you connect the two devices, do not panic. Everything is all right with your iPhone and Mac. You just need to manually start the update, which you can do by selecting your iPhone or iPod in the upper left corner. Tap the icon, and then click "Update > Download" and then update again. This process is much faster than the first method.
